Okay, today is the day you've been waiting your entire life for. Don't think so? Trust me, it is.
Because today, I, along with 4 fantastically amazing writers are doing a Pay It Forward with Partials event! In order to get your partial upgraded to a full, you need to have those first chapters sharp and strong. And we want to help you do that. So today, you could win one of 5 25-page critiques!
Meet the critiquers:
Lisa & Laura Roecker: Ever since Lisa and Laura were born, they've wanted to be conjoined twins, you know, like that Matt Damon movie. So they decided to do it virtually. Thus, LiLa was born, and the sisters actually got surgically joined at the hip in 2009. For realz. What? You think they're two different people? I beg to differ. And with a killer debut called THE LIAR SOCIETY, I think we all know who's right. (Me.)
Shannon Messenger: After her morning hang gliding routine (she launches from the double-Os on the Hollywood sign), Shannon spends her time memorizing all things Harry Potter, deep sea fishing, and inventing new hashtags for Twitter. #truefact But she's looking for a SUB for that so she can be freed up to zip through her next novel. All interested in the position can inquire at her blog.
Sarah Wylie: Born to Brownies (the creature, not the delicious snack cake), Sarah grew up in the wild. Because of this, she has a special place in her heart for Mowgli, living in tree houses, and only using three squares of toilet paper each day. She secretly wishes she could star in "Days of our Lives" (I mean, who doesn't?), the long-running soap opera on NBC. Instead, she wrote an amazing YA novel, ALL THESE LIVES, due out in the Spring of 2012.
P.J. Hoover: Native of "the land down under," P.J. enjoys all things vegemite, surfing, and pink (of course). She cornered the market on telekinesis, and regularly reads people's minds to find out what they're having for dinner. You might check out THE EMERALD TABLET, THE NAVEL OF THE WORLD, and THE NECROPOLIS if you don't believe me.
Elana Johnson: Lover of octopus, mushrooms, and dieting, Elana lives in the isles of the Caribbean, where she sleeps in late, enjoys the undulation of crystalline water, and writes young adult novels perfectly the first time. Her greatest POSSESSION is the fancy home office where she crafts her masterpieces.
In order to win a 25-page critique from me, you have to leave a comment on this post AND be a follower. To win from one of the other lovelies, visit their blogs (linked above) and follow their instructions. All winners will be announced on Monday, November 15--the same day as our next WriteOnCon event!
And seriously, don't you think LiLa is one person? Wouldn't you like to be able to read minds? Have you ever been hang gliding? Lived in the wild? Eaten octopus?
I would be honored! Please enter me.

Never had octupus or never hang glided...does that mean my life is incomplete? I do live on a farm so that is kinda wild.

ReplyDeleteLiLa is one person. I'm pretty sure of it.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely entering this.
christine.danek(at)verizon(dot)net
It would be an honor. :)
I really doubt my current manuscript will be in good enough condition for a critique, so if I win, it better be a gentle critique!
ReplyDeleteWow! You guys are so great for doing this! Seriously. I can't believe how often all of you give away your time.
ReplyDeleteSuch an awesome thing you are doing. ANd dude...your bio made me spew all over my computer this am!
ReplyDeleteWow that was a heavy dose of awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you told me about LiLa, I had always suspected it, but never had it confirmed.
Thank you for confirmation!
Awesome opportunity! I hope to snag a win!
Thanks so much for paying it forward and I'm a follower. I'd love to win this.
ReplyDeletenovelgirl[at]gmail[dot]com
Thank goodness for the WriteOnCon ladies! Another great contest!
ReplyDeleteCool contest! I had a feeling that someone waved a magic wand and presto LiLa. Might want to check the name. I was under the impression it was LaLi. Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteWell, I just decided that I was going to post on your blog today no matter what, so I guess this is as good of a time as ever. I don't really do exciting things...I write, I work in insurance, and sometimes I sing Joan Jett songs really loudly when I think no one is listening...
ReplyDeleteOh, oh, pick me, pick me! This would be amazing!
ReplyDeletenkrell(at)hotmail(dot)com

ReplyDeleteI'd like to enter, please. I'm new to following through Google, but I've followed your blog for a while. And I own From the Query to the Call.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention octopodes. My book has chromatophore-implants. :D (I would never eat one, though. An octopus, I mean.)
b.t.sonderby@gmail.com
Okay, you win the award for the cutest blog post ever! What a fun contest!
ReplyDeleteWow Elana, you are super-generous. What a great idea, seriously.

ReplyDeleteVicki
This would be heaven. Thanks for the chance. My fingers are crossed.

ReplyDeleteThank you for this!

ReplyDeleteI have never eaten octopus. I have a difficult enough time with squid. And who WOULDN'T love to read minds? Seriously.
ReplyDeleteJust had to swing by to say my husband and I tried octopus for the first time last week. He loved it. It'll grow on me.
ReplyDelete~ Wendy

ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity - please add me to the list.

ReplyDeleteYes. Please enter me. I'm definitely a devoted follower.
ReplyDeleteOh, enter moi!
ReplyDeletelisa.aldin@gmail.com
Awesome opportunity! I'd like to be entered.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever eaten live octopus? Here in Korea they do it two ways.
First, they chop up the octopus into small pieces and you eat it while it's still wriggling.
Second, it's a baby octopus. You wrap the tentacles tightly around chopsticks and eat the octopus whole.
I've only tried the first method, which is more popular. I didn't really get the appeal though. It didn't taste like anything ... and it stuck to my tongue piercing (when I had it).
I so need this!
ReplyDeleteIt would be awesome to read minds. Think of all the I could learn about motivation and inner conflict to take to my writing. :-D
I so want to win! This is such an awesome contest! As for octopus, I've never eaten it but my husband has. He said the thing you have to get over is the tentacles. Oh, and the suction cups. Ew.
ReplyDeletePick me! Pick me!
ReplyDeleteCaribbean sounds good to me. Not wild on dieting, tho. The idea of giving up chocolate is unthinkable. :D
Cool contest!
ReplyDeleteI ate octopus - once. The suckers on the tentacles are crunchy. Weird.
SWEET. What a great idea. Love what you guys do for the writers. You give so much back to the community. Don't enter me in the drawing, I just wanted to comment to say thanks for all you do!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and yeah, I'd LOVE to be able to read minds and OMW, I think I would have a stroke if I ever went hang gliding. LOL. I'm such a WIMP
I haven't got anything to crit right now so I'm out. But great contest nevertheless!
ReplyDeleteDude, seriously, I believe every word you've ever written. Every word. Consider me entered . . . in the partial contest (and the gullibility contest too). Ha!
ReplyDeleteS
Of course I'm a loyal follower and a fan of your work! Please enter me!

Awesome contest! You all pay it forward so much, we are so lucky you guys are so generous ;o)
ReplyDeleteDon't you think LiLa is one person? LOL. Nope.
Wouldn't you like to be able to read minds? OMG yes! but only for a short period, to see what it's like.
Have you ever been hang gliding? Nope, but I would try it, I think.
Lived in the wild? Maybe, if family vacations count. Ha.
Eaten octopus? No, probably won't either. Not really into food like that. I'm a burger and salad kind of gal.
Thanks so much!
Oh my gosh, how exciting. I'm definitely throwing my hat in the ring.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
Lisa ~ YA Literature Lover
Wow! Amazing contest. I would love to be entered.
ReplyDeletewriterkelley@yahoo.com
Wow! You gals are super generous and beyond awesome. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteLover of dieting, lol!!!! Aren't we all :/
ReplyDeleteSo exciting! I'm in!
ReplyDeleteLOL, I thought LiLa was one person at first.
ReplyDeleteOooooh, read minds! Yes, definitely, though there could be some drawbacks to having that skill.
I have been hang gliding. It takes forever to get certified, easily over 100 launches. I put a five launch dent in my progress and actually flew about ten feet :)
I practically lived in the wild a few times. My parents were hippies so we lived on a nudist colony for a few weeks.
I've eaten smoked octopus tentacles (good, but waaaaaaay too salty) and itty bitty octopus in sushi when I was in Singapore. Not too fond of it really, but in lieu of McD's, I like to eat local food when I go to a different country.
And yes, yes, yes, enter me in the contest. I'm a follower. Thanks for again putting up a great contest!
tropixgirl(at)gmail.com
Oh what fun! I just realized your blog has been in my reader for over a year but I'm not a follower. Remedy-ing that now! :-)
ReplyDeleteI am already a loyal follower. I haven't done any of the awesome things mentioned in the bios, however, I have done a caged shark dive with about fifty really huge sharks. Hopefully that makes me cool enough. :-)
ReplyDeleteHeading to the other's blogs right now to check them out.
Already a follower. :) Great contest, Elana!

ReplyDeleteI have never been hang-gliding (scared of heights), and there is no way in hell I would ever eat octopus. But I have lived in the wild. I am the youngest of six so that totally counts.
Awesome give away!
ReplyDeleteI frickin' love octopus. Seriously, when done right, calamari is one of my FAVORITE appetizers. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, to hang-glide. To reign in terror from the sky--my own terror of course because I'm terrified of heights. How many times have I said terror?
