Yeah, all right, I watched that movie. My girl kidlet loves to dance and she loves music. So we bought the movie OnDemand.
And you know what? It wasn't half-bad.
There's a song at the end, one that I've heard before. It made a small dent in my subconscious back then. But as I was watching the movie, it made a crater.
Today's song: The Climb by Miley Cyrus
The lyrics that changed my life (okay, that might be a tad overboard, you decide):
There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb
I don't think this needs further explanation.
What do you think of this? Totally inspirational, right? Now go write! It is NaNo after all. Just because I've fallen flat on my face doesn't mean you should.
*grins*
Seems like a lot of us NaNoers are stuck. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThe mountain is steep... LOL .... but I'm trying.
ReplyDeleteWords I had with my daughter the other day: "I don't care who sings that song. I love it." "I know Mom, I do too."
ReplyDeleteI've actually written about this very song before. It kind of stresses me out that it's a Miley song, but the words are VERY true and got me through the ending of my book :)
ReplyDeleteI hate to admit it, but I love the song. Of course, when I first heard the song, I had no clue who was singing. That has to count for something.
ReplyDeleteLife is a crazy adventure and no one, not no one told us it would be easy. It's not. It's crazy, unreliable, chaotic . . . and wonderful all at the same time.
The lyrics pretty much gone along with my philosophy that we always need to strive for more, not only in our writing but our lives as well. That's not to say we can't be content with our lives, but I don't think we should stop wanting more. : )

Oh, Twisted Sister yesterday and Miley Cyrus today??? Talk about extremes!
I have pancake face too. Don't worry. Together, you and me will make it to the Nano Summit! Go! Climb!
ReplyDeleteHave you always had music playing on your blog? First time I think I've actually come to the blog with the sound on. (Blame it on the new computer. LOL)
ReplyDeleteInteresting post. I'll have to think about it more. I just need to scale this current mountain before I can look at the range looming ahead of me.
It's a great song--very inspirational for writers. Now I must see this movie..I've heard it's great!
ReplyDeleteIt's all about the journey. Never know what's around the next bend!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I openly like that song, too.
ReplyDeleteI told one of my coworkers that when I hear it on the radio, I put down my car window, flail my arm outside it, and sing at the top of my lungs and cry a little.
But I said all that as if I was joking.
True (the words). My daughter loves this song. It really is inspirational.
ReplyDeleteKeep going on the NaNoWriMo. Even if you don't get 50,000 words, at least you are trying. =)
I'm falling flat on my NaNo face, too, and it's especially painful because I've always accomplished it before. But I realized that it isn't about finishing the thing as much as making the daily...oh no, here it comes...the DAILY CLIMB.
ReplyDeleteI'm going back to Twisted Sister now.
But I realized that NaNo should be fun, not stressful, and Real Life takes precedence first. Besides, I'm a writer and I write all year long. NaNo is just an extra bonus. It was really liberating to figure that out. :)
I would probably love this song if only someone else was singing it :) It does have fabulous words.
ReplyDeleteDisney's really got you in their pocket don't they? First Hercules now Hannah Montana?
ReplyDeleteAnd fallen on your face? I think not.
But as much as my husband mocks and ridicules, my daughter and I totally jam to this song because it is such a great message! It's one of those "Life's about the journey, not the destination" things.
Thanks for the motivation!
Yikes! You've gone to the dark side. Hannah!!! AHHH! The message is great, and I have to admit, I'd rather my daughter listen to this type of music with a good message, rather than some of the junk out there. Keep it up with NaNo! You can do it!!!!! (Of course this is coming from someone who bowed out!)
ReplyDeleteIf we conquered all of our mountains too fast, life wouldn't be fun anymore.
ReplyDeleteI've posted this very thing! Totally inspirational ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder Elana!
Hannah Montana, huh?
ReplyDeleteI'll agree the lyrics are inspirational. But it was the writer, not Miley Cyrus, who created the moving words. (Unless she wrote it - I'll stick a sock in it if she did.;))
Writers need more credit.
hhs
PS - Did you hear she's going to be the lead in the film version of Pike's "Wings"?
The song was written by country songwriters Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe. Great job, guys!
ReplyDeletehhs
I normally don't listen to music like this but I had to download it because of the words.
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration for NaNo and for writing in general.
* Raises hand slightly * I have to admit it, I've seen the movie, and I agree those lyrics are totally inspirational.
ReplyDeleteYou! You get right back on your feet and push through that Nano business.
ReplyDeleteYou can do it! All you have to remember is this: The bad guy is always Old Man Jenkins, and he would've gotten away with it too if it hadn't been for those meddling kids.
:-)
I have a little kidlet who is a huge Hannah Montana fan. It's kind of a guilty pleasure, but I enjoy watching it with her. I like that song, too.
Kat, LOL! I *heart* you. Can I write a scooby doo mystery? Probably better than what I'm attempting, actually. *wink*
ReplyDelete:)
Pretty sure I'm still not going to see the movie... but the song sounds great! :)
ReplyDelete(My kidlets are big enough -- I don't have to see it!!!)
Thank God I am not the only one suffering in NaNo land! The only thing I can say is....When the heck am I supposed to crank out these thousands of words, anyway....??
ReplyDeleteShelley
Hilarious! My 5th graders are getting "too cool" for Hannah Montana.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be like our prom song when we're all agented and have class reunions and such. Katie told me about this song a while ago and I always think of her when I hear it!
ReplyDeleteYou had me from the blog post title.
ReplyDelete"It's the climb."
That says it all. Can I get greeting cards with that embossed on it? Bumper stickers? T-shirts? It's perfection in a lyric, even one by Miley Cyrus, WoW.
