Random Importantness

Okay, so I've got to clear some of the clutter in my head. Here's what I've got going on in there.

1. I'm typing this on my work computer (hey, it's lunchtime) and the stupid scroll button on my mouse isn't working. So I have to go over to the scroll bar to move down or up. And do you know how much time that adds to my blog reading? Do you? Let's just say this: a lot.

Status: Annoyed.

2. I can't believe Pandora only allows me to listen for 40 hours a month. Yeah, my time was up on the 12th. The 12th people. So I spent 3+ hours on Sunday trying to get my iTunes from my old mac to my new HP. And yes, I have two email accounts on Pandora (cuz 80 hours ought to be enough, right?) but Pandora is smart and won't let me use a different account on the same computer.

Status: Grr...

3. So Pandora is on right now. And I've got all my blogs open for the afternoon reading time. Problem? Someone has music on their blog. And I can't hear my Glee song. I have to hit mute. And that annoys me.

Status: *When is Christmas vacation?*

4. It's my girl kidlet's birthday today. She's five, which is both good and bad. It's good because she's so fun now that I can understand everything she says and she can do so much for herself. It's bad because she's 6 1/2 years younger than my son (I only have two kidlets) and now that she's five people think they have the right to ask me if I'm going to have more. Um, you know what? None of your beeswax.

Status: Chocolate. I need chocolate. Cake will do. This is her birthday cake. I made it myself. Hours, people. It took hours.

5. While we're on the topic of blogs, I don't like the ones that surprise you with the word verification after you've typed your comment and hit "submit comment." Just when I think I'm done, no! I have to type another word. And that's precious seconds. So if you could change that on yours, I'd appreciate it. kthxbai.

Status: Chomping on cake.

6. I'm sick. And while I'm not as miserable as I've been at other times in my life, I wish I could lay in bed with Pirates of the Caribbean on all day and have someone bring me things to eat. Because there's nothing I love more than eating food someone else cooked off dishes someone else will clean up. Sadly, I'm the cook and the maid at my house.

Status: Is it Friday yet?

What have you got on your mind right this second that you need to unload? We know it's random. We know it's important. So just say it.

  1. I feel you on the cook/maid thing. And the whole music on the blog has been throwing me off lately too.

Hooray! I'm going home today! Finally!!

:( ... business trip forced me to miss kidlet's holiday program at preschool. Looking forward to her re-enactment tonight.

And that is one awesome Little Mermaid birthday cake!

Did I mention how excited I am to go home? Yeah.

  2. I hope my blog doesn't do that. Wordpress is my current pet peeve. It sends you an email after you comment asking you if you want to receive comments and then you have to go to the web page to say yes. Why not a simple notify me check box like blogger?

I'm sorry you can't stay home in bed while sick. Is tomorrow the last day of school out there? I hope so for you! The Bahamian kids were out a week and a half ago.

  3. Oh and I am totally impressed by that cake. I can't even ice a smooth cake, let alone decorate! Zero talent in that department. Zero!

  4. LOL!!! LOVE the cake Elana...and it is almost friday.

  5. You're hilarious! But I'm sorry you're having a bad day. I hope it gets better for you and that your daughter has an awesome birthday. :-) btw, I ate cake for breakfast this morning. Good stuff!

  6. Awesome cake! Right now it's cold and wet where I am which is the kind of cold the sort of seeps into my bones and makes me want to stay in bed all day and read, but I gotta make a pot of soup.

  7. 1st...Slacker.com ... it's Pandora's red headed step sister. Just try it.

2nd...My lap top mouse hates me. I feel your scroll bar pain

3rd...I awarded you on my blog. Hope you like it

4th...you are too creative. I would have found a Little Mermaid figurine and stuck it on the top. Congrats on being a better mom than me! LOL

5th and MOST IMPORTANT. If I take off my word verification I get comments for Chinese Porn...written in Chinese! Sorry...it's staying on there.

  8. Ooo, I'm so with you on the word verification. I can't figure out why some blogs show the word verification up front and others wait in hiding until after you click publish to then ask for it. And you might miss it because you have to really read that the comment was posted or there was a problem and then scroll all the way down.

Marybeth that is what we are talking about. Not that it's there but when it doesn't show up right away.

  9. Marybeth! Slacker.com. So on that. I tried Googling for other Internet radio stations, but apparently my Google skillz aren't up to par.

And Valerie, I did make that cake. We can't wait to eat it!

Southpaw, I'm glad someone feels my word verification pain. So glad.

Bish, I'll take some soup! Did you see that I'm sick?? Ugh. Good luck with that!

Windy, hope you get home safe -- and soon!

Nisa, sometimes blogging is such a pain, right? Right.

  10. then why do you have a word verification!!!! ha ha!

  11. It's not that I don't like word verification. I do use it. I don't like the option where you type your whole comment, hit submit (like you're done) and then bam! Tricked ya! You're NOT done, you still have to type in this word verification.

I like the way I do it, where the comment box is above the word verification and I can type my comment, type in my verification and then hit submit.

    Viola. Done.

The surprise word verification...not my favorite. It's a setting you choose.

:) But I'll deal. I just have to have my chocolate cake nearby.

  12. Love the Ariel cake. Your daughter is a lucky little girl.

No wonder you like to visit my blog. ;) I don't think I even have word verification.

Okay, not so random, but sometimes I get inspired by the weird words that the verification spits out at you.

Tessomak is mine right now. Maybe not the best, but some of these words are great sci-fi/fantasy fodder!

  13. My mind is a very scary place, and I try not to unclutter too often, for fear of causing Universal wide panic!

    On that note . . .

. . . why the heck are we so busy at work? Don't people know I read/comment on blogs during the slow times? No slow times = limited blogging/commenting. Arrrghhh!

. . . what the heck is it with cold temperatures? Yes, I know, it's December, but I live in the South for a reason! Double Arrggh!

. . . I'm with you on the "think I'm done and then word verify" thing. It doesn't make me a happy camper.

. . . and my list could go on, but work is calling. Triple Arrrggh!

    S

p.s. hope you feel better soon.

  14. Let's see...

    1. Waiting for a very important email I'm supposed to receive "within the week" and it's all ready THURSDAY.

    2. The world shuts down from Christmas to New Years and I feel like I'm racing the clock.

    3. Daughter's home from college for 3 weeks which means more food to cook, laundry to wash and dishes!!! I hate laundry and dishes.

    4. Haven't done any Christmas shopping yet.

5.It's Thursday. THURSDAY. The week will be over in 3 days!!!!!

    6. Umm... did you know that YOU have word verification on your blog??? ;)

  15. Right this second on my mind is my sister-in-law. She's back in the hospital with a post surgery infection. Pretty standard, she should be out in a day or two, but still, that's what's on my mind at this moment.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Love the cake, Elana!

I'm also sick, wishing my hubby didn't have to go to work (so he could take care of me!), and stressing over the Christmas shopping I haven't finished. I got an early start this year and felt all good about it, and then BAM. Eight days away and ugh... I don't know where the time between early and now went?!

  17. Oh, I am SO with you on number 5! I raise my fist in solidarity and say, "Amen, sista!" Usually, I'm in such a hurry that I exit from the comment box just as I see that stupid word verification thing pop up and lose the comment!! ARGH! Drives me nuts.

Second - I'm jealous. My school district has a tight lockdown on the internet. I can't ever check blogs or my private email from the school building. Grrrrrr. So how am I doing this right now? Because I'm home. Daycare provider's son is throwing up. My huband is also throwing up. So I'm trying to keep my son away from my husband.

Glad you got some things off your chest, Elena!

  18. I am all about cake. And I hear you on the hours. My kidlets get to choose anything they want for their cake. I think Mack the truck from the Cars movie took the longest. And was scary wobbily. LOL! 8 hours and the party-goers devoured it in 3 minutes. But it's all good.

  19. I love word verification because the things it asks me to type are strange and a bit beautiful. Right now, it's saying FORETE...

However, I hate the fact that if my thumb brushes the mouse pad it deletes my precious musings grrrrrrrrrrrrr

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm sorry your feeling bad. And I hear ya on the word verification and the autoplay music on blogs. Drives me batty.

As for music, I use Rhapsody (the on the go plan) and it lets me listen to as much as I want and all the songs I download are included in the monthly price so no paying per song--unless I want to burn the song onto CD). Added bonus, rhapsody links to my Tivo so I can my music to play through the tv too. :)

  21. Oh, dear. I didn't realize Pandora had a limit on how much you could listen. And here I've been wasting it on Mickey's Clubhouse Radio channel for the Pea. Blerg.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Happy Bday to kidlet :)

Okay, I didn't realize I controlled the word verification thingy on my blog. I assumed it was determined by the type of blog I was visiting. Drives me nuts too. Hmmm. I'll have to see if I can figure out what mine does :)

  23. The holidays are seriously interferring with my writing time.

I hate crowds and ruder people. Whatever happened to goodwill toward men (and women).

My 21 year old daughter is being just that a twenty something and isn't given me any definite plans for Christmas Eve.

I hate people telling me I don't look old enough to have a 21year old daughter. I earned those years people. Trust me the gray hair came from somewhere.

And...I'm sure there is more but my brain has taken a temporary vacation.

Friday is just around the corner. (Hugs)Indigo

  24. I had this SAME thought about word verifiers and their sneaky ways. While I sadly have learned that WF is a necessary evil (too much korean naughty ads) I still hate it.
    I want cake too.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks for the follow! I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts and comments.

  26. That cake is a work of art! I made a Teletubby cake one year so I know the HOURS of work that went into that bad boy! I'm impressed EJ!

  27. Coupla things:
o At least you have a scroll wheel. I have two-finger drag.
o I use Napster. No limit and it's in stereo.
    o Happy Kidday!
o I hate when there's "author's approval" which kills any possibility of having a discussion about the blog.

Random thing: I hate that the Colts are undefeated, but the Phins needed the Jags to lose to keep in the playoff race.

  28. So so so so tired and yet, I know I will be here, reading blogs and generally procrastinating stuff until it's officially LATE and then i will criticise myself for staying up so late, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love today's randomness.

Status: Really wishing I'd thought up such a cool idea for a blog post.

    Your cake ROCKS!

Status: Really wishing I'd done more than slap a few candles on DD's last birthday cake.

    I can't believe Pandora has a limit!

Status: Making sure my iTunes is loaded. And finding some headphones in case music is playing on someone's blog.

As far as the whole maid/ cook thing goes, I have a funny story for you. Last night I thought because it was the Relief Society Christmas Dinner, I'd get the night off from cooking and dishes. But OH, NO! In a moment of stupidity, I signed up to set one of the tables at the church with my own dishes. Little did I know that it would include a centerpiece. I don't do centerpieces. It was a scramble. So I had to set the table - and then I had to take all the dishes home in a laundry basket and wash them. And then I had to make dinner for my kids and clean up after them because DDSH (Dear, Dear, Sweet Husband) didn't make them dinner and rushed off to play basketball when I got home.

Status: Ate out at Red Robin while my dad fed the kids and cleaned up after them. Aaaaahhhhhhh.......

  30. I agree on the extra word! Down with extra word comment thingies!

PS: Thanks for reading and commenting on my article on branding on Lisa and Laura's blog! And good luck with your book!

  31. Sending you some cyber chocolate cake your way (you know, the kind with chocolate chips and chocolate pudding and chocolate frosting). Or am I the only one obsessed with chocolate? Please tell me I'm not alone!

  32. Regarding number one, I know EXACTLY how it feels. The scroll piece on my laptop's track pad breaks down at least once a week. You never realize how much you enjoy being able to scroll until you can't anymore.
