End of Summer, End of Hiatus

Okay, so I've been gone for a while! It feels a bit like I've abandoned the blog, but I assure you I haven't! I've just been taking a little hiatus while I "summer" properly.

I decided to make "summer" a verb this year. I've been doing all the summery things that should be done, like writing by the pool, catching up on reality TV, taking the kids to amusement parks, hiking to waterfalls, the whole kit 'n kaboodle. (Do people use that phrase anymore? I feel like I'm eighty years old! Haha.)

But anyway, school starts this week, and I'm back into full swing. I have a few exciting things coming up book-wise, and I'm excited to be back on the blogging train with you all! I have been blogging over at the League this summer, but I'll be back on my own blog now, all rejuvenated and ready for an exciting autumn!

Did you summer properly? I hope you did!

  1. My kids don't return to school for two more weeks, but I have been making more effort to spend time with them while I can. Publishing can drain you and steal away your time. I wanted to make my kids my priority this summer (but still make time for writing, which keeps me sane, and gear up for my upcoming release).

  2. I did not summer as properly as I could have. I guess I didn't feel like I deserved one, since I quit the teaching gig and being a writer is now my full time job.

Sadly, putting pressure on myself like that didn't help my creativity. It just caused numerous panic attacks.

Only now, as summer is ending, am I coming to grips with not being a teacher, how I need "off time" as much as anyone with a 9-5 job, and compartmentalizing writing as my new job but not my entire life.

  3. I'm on blog break right now and just stopped by to say hi. My summer was a time of transition as is my whole life right now. It's a hard time but I'll get to the other end of it. It'll just take time.

  8. I summered ish. I played muck out the whole bleepin' house and just figured out about four days ago that my characters for the genre I write were the wrong age - by a lot. So I'm schooling and teaching and rewriting from scratch.

    Have a great school year!
