Where I Spend My Time

When I open a new tab in Google Chrome, it brings up my most frequented places. When I got my new laptop, I had to "train" it. Luckily, it only took about a week to see where my priorities lay.

I give you Where I Spend My Online Time:

1. Facebook (I blame CafeWorld and FarmVille. You should too.)
2. Rallystorm (I'm long-winded. What can I say?)
3. Twitter (I like to eavesdrop.)
4. Blogger (I'm here five days a week, people.)
5. Pandora (2 accounts. 80 hours. The end.)
6. QueryTracker (This is like a three-peat. Blog. Forum. Success Stories.)
7. My own blog (Is that so wrong?)
8. Google (Hey, even I do a little research. A very little.)

I like to tell myself that I'm a supreme multi-tasker, and I'm juggling twitter and forums and blogging amidst my revisions, but it's all a lie. I have to get the tabs down to two (Pandora and gmail) before I even open Word.

What about you? Where do you spend your time online?

Blogger, Blogger, Blogger, Google, and once in a while FaceBook.

I feel like an internet dud. I don't even know what Google chrome or Pandora or Rallystorm are. Though I'm aware of twitter, I'm still illiterate.

But at least I know Blogger and Query Tracker. And (phew) Google.

Oh yeah, and Facebook.

Definitely Blogger -- and I'm the Google queen. It's not a good day if I don't think of multiple things to Google. A little FB but I'm not a Twitter girl.

Blogging for me. I had to limit my time on online critique boards. It took tooooo much time away from work. lol

Besides online games (read this as World of Warcraft), I am usually on blogger.

So where in all this list of online things you do is there time for you to write? Sheesh.

Elana, I meant to tell you, I just got both Glee soundtracks from my bro. Can I interest you in a copy? Andrew and I have been listening to them non-stop the last few days.

Kimberly Franklin said...

Oh, Elana. I feel your pain!

My frequents are:

Blogger (I swear it's like having a second job. But one I actually LOVE!)

Twitter (Oh, how would I go on living if Twitter ever went away? Umm...I couldn't. I would surely die if I couldn't tweet!)

Facebook (Who doesn't facebook? I mean, really)

And last, but certainly not least:

Youtube (It's so addicting! I can never stop at just one video. Kind of like cookies.)

Have a great weekend!

Oh you just made my entire month so much happier!! You little Pandora sneak, you... 2 accounts. Genius!!!!!

A friend showed me Farmville just the other day ... I had no idea.

I think it's brilliant, but something tells me I have to draw the line ...)o:

Darn that social networking! It's such a time sink. Does it count if I have my facebook update my twitter and show up on my linked in and myspace?

I like to streamline where possible. It doesn't cut down on the play time, it just makes it seem like I am more productive. LoL.

On blogger and my Stats class portal. yuck.

Your'e definitely ahead of the game online than I am. I have no idea what Pandora or Rallystorm are, or well, even Google Chrome...but now, I think I will make it my mission to find out.

As for Facebook, I had to curtail my Farmville addiction. It was getting a little insane. My online farm was massive and my family was forgetting they had a mother. Alas, all my crops have long since died and my flowers have withered away...the sacrifices we make....

Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Google Reader... BUT I am very very VERY proud to say I have not visited a gossip blog in over a month. That's the longest I've gone since, oh... 2005. I still can't believe I've lasted so long!

(I am following my favorites on Twitter though)

In addition to those, I gotta check out my sports scores on ESPN as well.

Roxane B. Salonen said...

You know, I think I'm a little scared to find out! But perhaps someday soon I'll take a look and see just what I've been doing with my time. It's good to self-check every once in a while. Happy to be introduced to your blog after noticing my new follower today. Since I'm getting ready to write my first YA novel, I'm looking forward to the connection!

I may or may not be addicted to twitter. It's kinda up in the air!

Elana Johnson said...

Megan - YES! I'm all in. I tried to email you, but it was the no reply address. I'll pull up your real email in a sec.

And Elle, Google Chrome is the best Internet browser evah! I love it!

And I can't believe you guys don't know what Rallystorm is! I have a group there where we talk about what we're doing in our writing. It's awesome. I have a link over there on my sidebar. It's called the Writing Throwdown forum. It's awesomesauce!

Cat, yeah, the SCBWI boards are quite addicting. I need to get over there more, and then I feel panic because it's just one. more. thing.

DL - sports! How could I forget? ;-) Oh, wait. Those are on the TV which is also on while I've got my fifty million tabs open.

Definitely blogger. I imagine I probably spend a lot of time on my own blog. And, no, there's nothing wrong with that.

Lately, mainly Duotrope with a past three-day intensive at the Pred/Ed poll site's tally page. More Facebook than I can comfortably admit. And Google(needed recipes, I SWEAR.)

I can honestly say Word has also been opened. And used. I haven't been *all* play this week. Just looked that way. :)

Ooo. Multiple Pandora accounts, multiple 40 hour limits. Love the idea! I also spend a lot of time on Playlist.com. Once Pandora gets me good stuff I go make my own playlists.

I spend a lot of time on email (between my 4 email accounts), reading blogs, composing my own blog, and definitely Twitter.

Roni Loren said...

Let's see *opens google chrome page* Mine is not too different from yours.

Blogger, Yahoo Groups page (my crit group), google, amazon (bad book shopping habit), playlist.com, facebook, my own blog, and twitter.

Goodreads has my heart as do the others you list. Also, I'm a world class lurker. Thanks for helping me come out of my shell by following, Elana, because I love your blog! :)

I took great comfort in Nathan Bransford's post last week about doing what you could and not worrying about the rest. I had been feeling guilty for not doing facebook or twitter. But, now I let it go.

No guilt.

really, none. dang it...maybe just a little.

Facebook, Blogger, The Critique Circle, Twitter, Runescape.

Yes, I play Runescape. *cries* Don't judge me!

LOL, great idea for a post!

Let's see how I compare:

1. Facebook
2. Goodreads
3. iGoogle (which is where I access Blogger, Gmail, and Google Maps)
4. Barnes and Noble
5. Weather.com
6. Sparksflyup.com (the home of author John Green)

#3 sort of distorts things...

I am a rare breed.

I spend the bulk of my online time blogging/reading blogs and participating in chat rooms.

Chat rooms is where I did my boot camp for writing (it isn't easy to write something concise in under 750 words/4,000 characters), and I'm still there on a daily basis.

Some e-mail and a very minimal presence on FB.

For SURE blogger. Hands down.

I love your honesty! My parents were just here and I spent the whole time talking to them while my fingers hacked away at the keyboard sending a friend some file. I'm beginning to believe my laptop is a necessary appendage!

Wow, where do you find time to write a novel, Elana? ;)

I'm on facebook and I blog, though not as often as I should. As of last weekend, I have a twitter account. Now I have to figure out how to use it. :D Thank goodness there's Twitter for Dummies. I also hang out at Absolute Write, especially on the YA thread.

I spend way too much time online. it becomes a distraction to other things that I should be doing.

I just Facebook, email, google reader, my own blog (you aren't the only one), and amazon. As well as searching for various interior design inspirations.

Period.

So, if you ever see me on twitter, tell me to shut up and go write.

Seriously.

Yeah, I've got Blogger, Google, Twitter, & Facebook.

I've heard Pandora is AMAZING! I really need to try it out. I don't get to listen to the radio often so I think I'd like to learn about some new music through Pandora.

I'm with Elle, some of these are new to me - but I am very excited to explore then now!

For me: blogger above and beyond (my blogs, mostly), then facebook (I, too, have been sucked in by the black hole that is TikiWorld and FarmVille and SororityLife - aaaaaaaaahhh!)...Then I've been liking the blogcatalog site and GetGlue lately.

Gret blog you have here! Thank you for coming by mine!

Blogging. (Go ahead and just spank me now. It's a huge time sucker, although while I write & read blogs, I'm also building a platform and doing literary and pub world research. Yes.)

And Twitter, where I love the serendipity of finding juicy links. (chalks up to more writerly research)

Also some FB with my peeps, which is mostly socializing.
