My 50 Books for 2009

So I'm lame. I've read one book so far this year. Hey, there's nothing like a challenge. In my mathematician mind, I know I have to read about 4 books per month to make the 50 this year. So I'm already 3 behind.

In case you have no idea, what I'm talking about, I'm taking on the challenge to read 50 books in 2009. Here are some already on my list, in no particular order. I'll add to it as I discover more "must-reads" and new books that aren't out yet.

1. The Final Warning by James Patterson

2. The Quantum Prophecy--The Awakening by Michael Carroll

3. Revenge of the Witch (The Last Apprentice) by Joseph Delaney and Patrick Arrasmith

4. Marked by P.C and Kristen Cast

5. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

6. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

7. Enna Burning by Shannon Hale

8. The Book Thief by Mark Zusak

9. Here There Be Dragons by James A. Owen

10. The Last Days by Scott Westerfeld

11. Paper Towns by John Greene

12. Alcatraz Versus the Scrivener's Bones by Brandon Sanderson

13. Pillage by Obert Skye

Books that aren't out yet, but I will be buying and reading:

1. The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brenaman (out June 2)

2. The Hollow by Jessica Verday (out October 6)

3. Blood Promise (Vampire Academy #4) by Richelle Mead (out August 25)

Oooh, I ended that list on 13. And it's Friday the 13th this week. Hmm...a sign? Perhaps. What other books need to be on my list?

Wake and Fade by Lisa McMann are interesting reads. How about the Alchemist and the Magician by Michael Scott (different than the other Alchemist you listed), there is anew Max Ride book out next month and of course, Melissa Marr's books are good if you have not read them yet. Hmmm....I guess that'll keep you busy for now :)

Happy reading...

I'd love to see my book on your TBR list! It's not Sci-Fi or Fantasy, but maybe...?

I do try to branch out and read other things beside sci fi/fantasy. Definitely going to add your book to my list, Beth!

Christine, Wake is made of awesome! Fade comes out tomorrow. I'll check out the others. Thanks!

So, I kind of sort of totally stole your
50 book in 2009 idea from when you first wrote about it on your blog. I am doing pretty well so far mostly because while I was sick I gobbled up a ton of books.

Great list.

I met P.C. and Kristin Cast in Tulsa last summer... awesome people. I've met Richelle Mead and Sara Rees Brennen before too. Super nice people. But, you know, I'm not tooting my own horn. *honk*

The only book on your list that I've read is Paper Towns and I loved it.

Hi! :) Very good book list. I am looking forward to reading Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston. It just came out in december and it's her debut, but it sounds uber cool :)

I find that there are tons of urban fantasy agents... but very few that list urban sci-fi. Why is that? LOL

Brian! I'm so jealous you've met all those people. I've met...no one. Well, does Brandon Sanderson count? Yes, I think so. And Orson Scott Card, I've met him.

Jenn, that sounds like an awesome book! Thanks for recommending it. I LOVE science fiction, but I'm more of a "soft" sci fi girl. My favorite are the dystopian science fiction novels.

Ooo, I really need to start my own list...I've done pretty good this year already, courtesy of my writing slump :D

There is no way I could read 50 books in a year. I am way too slow. Good luck with your list, and happy reading!

I know a book for you! It's THE KEEP by Jennifer Egan, and it's kind of a literary/ghost story/mystery thing. It's not super long (good for reading 50 books in a year), and I read it in about a weekend, and it is not normal for me to do that anymore. I could not put it down.
