Getting to Know You...

Getting to know all about you. Yeah, cue the music, people. (And name that movie/play, if you can.)

Okay, I don't know how many of you are actual subscribers and how many of you slipped and accidentally hit that subscribe button and now you don't know how to undo it. But I'm glad you're here! I love blogging, and I love comments.

So today is "Getting to Know You" day. I want to know who you are! I can see my followers (and I always try to click on you and follow you back. Yes, I have the sheep syndrome from time to time.) and it's fun to see your tiny heads on the side. But I don’t really know you.

So here's the deal. Leave me a comment with who you are. Who you hope wins Survivor or American Idol. What you do for a living. Your favorite food. Whatev. A short little blurb about yourself.

If it were me, I might say something like this: "I write YA fiction, adore reality TV, drive way too fast, and wish bacon alone could sustain life." It doesn't have to be like, your entire life history or anything. But just a little something to get to know you.

And I'm gonna bribe you to do it. Food usually works with teenagers and husbands, but since I can't send you my infamous chocolate pie through cyberspace, I'm going to offer up a copy of TANTALIZE by Cynthia Leitich Smith. Hey, the book is about a girl who runs a restaurant and that's totally food-related, so it's all good. So get introducing yourselves!

**Winners will be chosen by random number. No Sprite-spewage on this. Although bonus points will be awarded for that. ;)

Whoo hoo! First comment goes to the random sister team.

SO, we are sisters who are obsessed with pop-culture, and all things book related. We don't watch Survivor or American Idol, but we do watch anything and everything that Bravo produces. Real Housewives of NYC anyone? We're currently reading a fabulous book called Control Issues. Ever heard of it?

Oh, jeez. Now you have me humming the song. The King and I. I was just forced to watch that in music class a few days ago.

Let's see...Well, I'm Jenna (or Jen) and I write YA SF and fantasy, and lately I've been trying my hand at horror. I don't watch Survivor or American Idol, but I love Project Runway, which I watch with my mom. I'm a student and don't have a job -- yet. But something tells me that I'll have to get one soon, since I'm old enough. My dad's a chef, so I eat lots of good food, but I'd have to say that my favorite is pizza. Okay, my dad's gourmet pizza that he makes at work. But still, pizza.

So...that's me. :) I love reading your blog. And I really want that book. It looks good.

Okay,

I write ya fantasy, but I pay the bills by playing and teaching flute. How wierd is that huh?

Anyways, I really like Adam and Danny from American Idol and Scott, although I know he's not the best singer.

I'm a vegetarian, and my favorite food is pasta!!!

Now, I don't want a copy of that other book....I want a copy of YOUR book when it comes out!!!

What a fun blog post idea! I might have to steal it from you sometime and find out about all my followers, too!

I am an almost-thirty stay at home mom with a two year old daughter named Darcy. Yes, I named her after Mr. Darcy from P&P. I love steaks, fries, chocolate, Greek food, and curry. I love to cook and bake and take pictures. But most of all, I love writing. I got a degree in English so I could be a novelist when I "grew up." Apparently I'm not to that grown up stage yet. I'm getting there!

Okay, enough rambling. My house just flooded last night and I'm very tired and wired.

Love your blog! And I can't wait to mee you and Suzette soon!

I'm a recovering (retired) technical writer attempting to become an author. Some successes, although small so far.

I mainly write MG/YA fantasy, but I've had stories published in a bunch of genres: mainstream, horror, romance, western(!), science fiction, adult fantasy, and indefinable.

I like Survivor, Dancing shows, Idol, CSI, Lost. Yeah, I watch too much TV.

I love this idea of having us introduce ourselves!

I found your blog after reading one of your awesome posts on the Querytracker blog(which I read each and every morning). So I was thrilled to see you start following my new blog as an aspiring writer.

My name is Rebecca and I'm a stay at home mom to a 17-month-old. I only started writing this past year and found my self not only obsessed with reading YA fantasy but writing it now too. I finished my first (92,000 word - eeekk!) book a couple of months ago and just had my first request from an agent last week!So here's to hoping we all get to read each others books in actual physical form someday soon!

Oh and I am all about Danny on AI! And I LOVE to eat so many things. Where to start? I'll go with...mini cadbury eggs (the solid chocolate with the crunchy shells), sushi, Arizona Stress Tea, fried rice, avocado and the list goes on and on.

Great to meet you Elana and everyone else following. Thanks for the fun and helpful posts!

Cool idea! I just stumbled across your blog through Ali's blog and am happy to be here.

I too am a YA Fantasy writer, though I dream of writing mysteries. Unfortunately my detectives keep turning into werewolves, so I figure I'd better just stick with the fantasy thing.

I am a stay at home mom, have two boys (9 and 10) and love to cook, read, sing, music (listening, singing, writing, and playing flute), and love animals. I love to make up my own recipes and try them out on my victims . . . er, I mean friends and family, and I'm a total TV addict. Regularly Tivo and watch all the CSI's, Bones, Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer, Iron Chef America, Dollhouse, Lie to Me, and American Idol. I've recently discovered Hulu. Yeah, not good. I spend too much time watching and not enough writing anymore. Darn TV.

Can I play even though you know me IRL? :) Well, anyway, here's a couple tidbits about me...

1 - My muse is schizophrenic. I write YA, women's fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, and picture books. And that's not all. Sometimes my muse tells me to put down the pen and pick up a paintbrush. I don't know what in the world I'm gonna do with her.

2 - I'm working up the nerve to cut my hair short because yours rocks and I'm inspired. And, let's just get it out there: mine sucks. But I don't think I can pull off the many-layered-'do. We'll see how brave I get when I'm in the chair of fear.

3 - I'm getting a new bike today. But I'm too sick to ride it. Isn't it ironic? Don't you think?

I'm a father of 3 kids. 8,3, and 2 mos. I write Young Adult Fiction. I don't watch reality TV, haven't since like American Idol 2 years ago. I like the early parts more than the actual competition. Most of my time spent not writing is hanging out with the family and playing video games with said family. I'm also a Poker player.

Lisa and Laura! Ack! *biting nails to the bone* LOL. I don't watch Bravo...I'm going to have to do that.

Jen, you got the movie/play/whatev! And having a dad for a chef sounds like a great idea for a YA novel...real life and all that. :)

Aubrie, have I told you that I play the flute? I also used to play the French horn in the marching band. Man, these are my deep secrets I've tried to keep hidden!

Lady G, sorry about the house! I can't wait until you're all dried out and I can come over.

Marva, you are made of publishing success! My fellow reality TV buddy.

Dude, Rebecca, cadbury eggs do not need explainage. They are awesome. Congrats on your first request! How exciting!

Karen, you win the spewage award for today! "My detectives keep turning into werewolves." LOL! Glad you dropped by! Isn't Ali great? Yes, yes she is.

Jenn, you're always allowed to play. Always. I love your schizo muse. She's always welcome at Mindless Musings.

DeadMan, dude, I just like typing that screen name. I guess it's okay that you don't watch reality TV. But only because you play video games, another one of my dirty little past times. I especially like guitar hero. I rock as Lars Umlat. srsly.

Welcome everyone!

Sorry, a little late to the game. Had relatives staying with us over the weekend - forced to "entertain."

I couldn't pass up this chance to "de-lurk" as I've heard this called before. Found you from your comments on my Miss Snark's First Victim submission. (Thanks, by the way. Good stuff.)

I'm Windy - yes, like the weather. People have tried to correct my spelling of my own name countless times. It's not a typo. LOL.

Mostly I write YA, a little YA fantasy (a new project). I usually have a handful of projects going simultaneously. My sister tells me I'm crazy, I probably shouldn't have told her about the voices in my head that talk to me.

As for the food question? Yeah. Lots. I love it.

Woot! So much fun! I'm a mom of three; I write YA comedy, and... uh... If there was a reality show about ninjas or zombies, I would so be there. With bells on. And probably in costume, because I am the kind of geek that gets costumed up to go to things, only not things that other people get costumed up to go to. Lord of the Rings? Nah. But I'll dress up like a Spice Girl Zombie to go clubbing.

I'm late to commenting, too, but it's great to read about everyone.

Right now I'm revising my YA novel, but during NaNo I've also written a couple of literary novels, a sci-fi, and some kind of epic western.

I majored in writing, and I've been working in publishing for the past 5 years. Right now I'm at McGraw-Hill, in K-6 Reading.

Um, I have 4 cats, and I play the violin. I haven't been published yet, but I'm sure that's because I've only sent out short stories twice.

Also, Elana, sorry for inundating you with comments today. I'm catching up!

Hi Windy! That is a totally cool name. No one ever gets mine right either. Not even my FIL, whose family I've been a part of for TWELVE YEARS.

Carrie, you are the queen of fun stuff!

And Annie, never apologize for comments. Dude, I love 'em!

Welcome to da blog!

Thought I'd go ahead and play. I read Elana's blog because I know her in real life (aren't you all jealous?) and because I'm thinking about starting to write. I have a B.A. and an M.A. in English and after reading so many great books, I'd love to try my hand at writing one myself. I have two little ones (2 and 6 mos.), I'm married to a fabulous ballroom dancer (he doesn't get to dance much anymore, unfortunately), and I am learning the art of decorating cakes.

The King and I! Yea!

I suppose the first thing you should know about me is that I seriously can't pass up a "getting to know you" game. It's terrible! They just suck me right in like, well, like reality TV! Okay, admittedly, I am not a huge fan of reality TV, but I do love American Idol. It comes from the music background I could totally go on and on about forever. (My first love... uh after my husband of course) I won't bore you with that though. ;) The rest of me is a swirl of writer/reader, mother, religious and political commentator, wife and friend. I just love to talk and talk and... type! Thus the writing outlet.

Hi! I've been reading our blog for the last few months, I don't think I've ever commented before though.

About me, I'm a writer of YA fantasy, and my next book idea is Sci Fi so I guess I'll be both. I'm not yet published, but I'm finishing up the second draft of my current book, and soon, very soon I'll be sending it out to agents! I'm a mom of three. I live in NC. My reality TV show addiction is to the Biggest Loser. I love chocolate and reading.

Hey! Once again I've stumbled onto a contest at the eleventh hour! Sweet!

I'm with Jenn ... know you IRL but that's not going to stop me from hoping I win a book. I love books!

I'm also like Jenn in that I'm a pschyzo writer. I'll write anything and everything my Muse tells me to write. I do love YA though. I love the voice--both to read and to write. So vibrant, so alive. So anything-can-happen. LOVE that!

So yeah, I've got two Things, one and two, both born on the same day just minutes apart and they are the lights of my life. Except, they're boy-types and so, sadly, I'm outnumbered in my home.

You know me, I LOVE chocolate and your choco-pie ROCKS. In fact, I could go for that one of these days, hint hint, nudge nudge.

Hi There!

I saw you were following me and I finally figured out how to follow you back!

Let's see. I enjoy writing YA and women's fiction on a wide range of subjects. I don't enjoy trying to find an agent for it... I'm a law student. Oh, and I just joined booksfree, which is basically netflix for books. That made me really happy. And another recent discovery that made me really happy: Tokyo Police Club.

Great looking book. I love the table of contents and the first couple of chapters I was able to get through.
